The Foolish Shepherd Boy

There was a little shepherd boy who lived in a far away village with his mother. He used to take his flock of sheep to the hill-side for grazing everyday. Everybody was very nice to the shepherd boy, but on the contrary he was a very mischievous boy.

He liked to play tricks on the villagers. His mother often asked him not to do like that. She advised that on one or other day his mischievous behavior would turn as a danger to him. But the boy doesn't care and listened to his mother's words.

One day the shepherd was tending the sheep. The sheep kept grazing but the boy felt bored. So he thought of having fun at the cost of his fellow-villagers. Standing on a high rock, the boy noticed all the villagers were busy at their field work.

Suddenly the boy cried at the top of his voice, "Wolf! Wolf! Come to save me and my sheep". At first nobody listen to his voice. But the boy doesn't stopped shouting. He again shouted "Wolf! Wolf! Help! Help!". This time on listening to the shepherd boy's screaming voice, all the villagers came running. The villagers rushed out with big sticks to help the boy.

As he saw the panicked villagers he started to laugh heartily and said, "Ha! Ha! What a fun. You people actually thought that there was some wolf around. If there been any wolf, I would have shot him away".

On seeing the boy boastful comment the villagers got irritated and went away. The Shepherd boy does the same trick for other two times and each time the villagers came running. At last one day a wolf really came and ate couple of the sheep.

The shepherd boy shouted for help but there was none to listen to him. Everyone thought he was joking once again.

Moral : Once a liar, always a liar.
